The V80 camcorder offers a very compact device for HD home video recording for a relatively low price. It’s smaller than most modern cell phones, thought it does weight more due to the necessary hardware and design. However, it’s still very light and easy to carry around. This camera is capable of recording in a variety of resolutions, including the maximum of 1080p. The image quality isn’t the best and doesn’t really match up to higher-end products, but given the fact that it costs under $50, I think it delivers features and quality that are more than sufficient for most.
– Very lightweight and compact design.
– Easy to use.
– Multiple output options.
– 30fps (29 actually) at 1080p resolution.
– Very good auto light adjustment.
– Decent audio quality.
– Video quality isn’t the best.
– No zoom with 1080p recording.
– Zoom gets very grainy.
The V80 has a very good design, and is both lightweight and compact. The screen swivels 45 degrees to start the camcorder and gain access to the control buttons. The controls allow you to simply and quickly change modes, view previous recordings, or start a new recording. I had no problems navigating the menus or recording with this device. I think this would be a good, inexpensive option for kids or teens who want to do recordings. But it’s great even for adults looking for a more budget option that still has the capability of HD recording. This device can record in standard definition, as well as both 720p and 1080p. At 1080p it still has a respectable frame rate of 30FPS (frames per second).
The video quality isn’t bad, considering the very low cost of this unit. It doesn’t compare to the higher-end products available, but those often cost 2-4 times as much as this recorder. Now, while this does record in 1080p at 30fps, the video quality itself isn’t phenomenal. I’ve done a video demonstration to show the exact output you get with a typical indoor recording. It does seem a bit grainy in comparison to higher-end products, but overall the video and particularly the audio, are what I’d categorize as above average. There are a variety of things to consider when choosing the right device for your needs, but there really isn’t anything “wrong” with the V80 camcorder. Whether you find the compact size and ease of use appealing or find the video quality acceptable are going to be individual decisions.
Final Score: 4/5Overall the V80 camcorder does a good job at delivering higher than average quality at a very low price point. For under $50 you’d be hard pressed to find a camera that records in 1080p at 30FPS. And while you lose the zoom ability at that resolution, it’s not really the best feature of this device in the first place. As I mentioned previously, I think this makes a great option for kids and teens who want to do some recording or for adults looking for a good but inexpensive recorder. Take a look at the video for yourself and see if it fits your standards and needs.
